Aluma Therapy Skin Tightening

Non-Surgical Skin Tightening

Aluma Therapy Skin Tightening is a revolutionary technology to achieve non-surgical skin tightening with minimal pain and no down time. It smoothes wrinkles and tightens loose skin while stimulating new collagen growth deep beneath the skin's surface. A typical treatment is done without anesthesia, takes 15-60 minutes, and you will see some results immediately. Your results will continue to improve gradually with time and are long lasting.

The length of your treatment depends on the size of the affected area and other than some minor swelling, other side effects are rare. You`ll be able to return to your normal activities immediately. Aluma differs from Thermage due to The FACES™  (Functional Aspiration Controlled Electrothermal Stimulation) technology which allows the procedure to be virtually pain free. Aluma Therapy for Skin Tightening is a great way for getting face lift results without the risk and invasiveness of surgery.

The Aluma device delivers pulses of heat to the underlying layers of the skin without damaging the skin's surface layer. The heat then stimulates the formation of new collagen, which plumps and tightens the skin, giving it a smoother, more youthful appearance.

What is Aluma and who is a candidate for the procedure?

Aluma is a cosmetic treatment that uses radio frequency technology to treat loose skin and wrinkles. While it is primarily used on areas of the face and neck, the procedure may also be performed on other parts of the body like the abdomen, arms and legs.

This procedure is particularly useful because it can safely be used on the delicate skin around the eyes. Until recently, lasers could not be used around the eyes because absorbing light would damage the retina. But the new Aluma doesn't affect the eyes. It uses radio frequency energy.

We can treat upper lids all the way down to the eyelashes. We can treat lower lids all the way up to the eyelashes. We can treat the fat pads. It improves dark circles, firmness of the eye area and reduce and in many cases, remove crow's feet.

Aluma works by going beyond the surface of the skin to effectively treat the lower dermis and promote the production of collagen. The treatment is completely non-invasive, without the need for needles, medication, or recovery time. The result is skin that looks and feels tighter and smoother, and will continue to do so for some time after the treatments are complete.

Ideal candidates for the Aluma procedure are individuals wishing to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and create a firmer, tighter skin appearance.

However, due to the nature of this procedure, those seeking a dramatic change to their appearance may not see immediate results with Aluma since the benefits are more gradual in nature and won't have the dramatic effect that surgical procedures might.  The benefit is a progressive change without people knowing that you have done something.

What are the benefits of Aluma?

How does the procedure work and what is the recovery like?

Aluma is usually performed right in the spa, and the entire process generally takes less than an hour. If a larger area of the skin is targeted for treatment, sessions may last longer.

Sessions begin by cleansing the targeted area and applying a conductive lotion that increases the effectiveness of the machine. The hand piece will then be used to suction areas of skin so that radio frequency waves can be sent underneath the skin's surface.

A revolutionary technology called FACES™ (Functional Aspiration Controlled Electrothermal Stimulation) results in energy deposited deep in the skin without affecting the skin’s surface. Because of this technology, no prep is needed.

One does not need to be pre-medicated or numbed. The skin is gently drawn into the tip of the hand piece. Energy is delivered in the deep layers of the skin. (See Figure 1)

Figure 1
The tissue between the tips gets heated and this heat will then stimulate collagen growth.

There may be some mild redness which resolves in 1-2 hours. You can return to normal activities immediately. A series of 5 treatments are recommended for best results. Fine lines are reduced and skin is tightened as new collagen is deposited in the dermis. Although some improvement will be seen within a month to a few months, the skin should continue to improve for several months after treatment as new collagen is generated.

In some cases, a bit of mild swelling might occur in the treated area, but this is typically due more to the suction process than the radio frequency waves themselves.

As for side effects, because of the suction effect, clients may experience redness around the eye area that can last for a couple days.

What are the risks involved with Aluma?

While there is a degree of risk with any procedure, the risks involved with Aluma are minimal and rare. To help reduce risk even further, clients should ensure that the MedSpa they choose is experienced with the Aluma machine and have a proven track record with previous cosmetic procedures and clients. A client should also follow post-treatment instructions to reduce risk and ensure success with the Aluma procedure.

How much do Aluma treatments generally cost?

The average cost of an Aluma session is $300-$800. However, most clients will require multiple Aluma sessions to reap the full benefit. The most common number of treatments required is three to four, with sessions once a week until the desired results are achieved. In some cases, clients may require more.

Can the Aluma be combined with other injections such as Botox® or Juvederm®?

Absolutely. Combination treatments often result in the best results. Often times, if the Aluma is done first, the amount of Botox® or Juvederm® is less resulting in savings for the client.

Are the results permanent?

The results are temporary since the skin needs to have a continued external activator to stimulate collagen. Results last up to 12 months. Maintenance treatments therafter, will be needed every 3-6 months; however, the maintenance treatments only require 1 treatment vs. sometimes several treatments during the initial course.
